Cigarettes and healthThat first pull of the nicotine-filled stick can be enough to make anyone addicted. The rush you feel and the way it can relax your body could make anyone fall in love. This ranges from one packet per week to 3 packets per day. You don't think about the effect it has on your body, the effect on the second-hand smoker, or the cost of this new addiction. All you think about is how your body and mind feel. All of these factors, if examined, should constitute more than sufficient reasons to justify banning cigarettes. Cigarettes are one of the main reasons Americans are dying today. It is filled with nicotine which is very addictive. Nicotine is a powerful neurotoxin that acts as an insecticide to protect tobacco plants from insects. Cigarettes contain 4,000 different chemicals and when lit they can produce over 3,000 more different chemicals, which is the 7,000 chemicals a human draws into their body. Carbon monoxide, ammonia, and nitrogen oxide are among the chemicals found in or produced with a cigarette. These chemicals can cause many health problems. Coronary heart disease, aneurysms, emphysema, bronchitis and asthma are some of the side effects of smoking. There are also many different cancers you may face. Cancers of the lips, colon, rectum, liver, kidney, stomach and lung are the most important. Some people, but not most, deal with high blood pressure and blood clotting problems. Smoking cigarettes can also damage women's reproductive systems, making it difficult to become pregnant. The only way to avoid having to deal with these effects is to not smoke. When people smoke, they never think about others around them. Most think that since "it's them" who smoke and not the people around the middle of paper...the Americans. In 2011, $8.4 billion was spent on promotions and advertising. Smokers even have to pay a higher amount of insurance than a non-smoker. The best way for a smoker to save money is to quit smoking. Smokers don't think about the effects of smoking on their body, the effects on the second-hand smoker or the cost of purchasing cigarettes, all they worry about is getting their fix. Their health and well-being are not important, because it is too late. Although there are all these studies to prove that it is harmful for smokers to maintain this bad habit anyway. If cigarettes were banned, it would be one less thing for Americans to worry about. Not only for their health, but also for the health of others around them.,ReferencesBailey, E. (2013).
