    Julius Caesar is one of the famous Roman generals. Many may recognize this name from the great works of Shakespeare. Before Shakespeare's great works, Julius Caesar was famous in his Roman city. Julius Caesar was a dictator who transformed the Roman Republic into the Roman Empire. Even though Julius Caesar's life took place between 100 and 44 BC. B.C., people around the world will mention Caesar's name and legacy. To begin with, Julius Caesar's time was very different from life today. People didn't get married because they were in love with each other most of the time. In Roman times, people married to have perfect children. Babies who were unwell or in poor health during this time were thrown out and left to die. According to Phillip Freeman, “Roman families had to keep the first girl born and all boys healthy.” (Freeman 23). At that time there were no public schools, only private schools and tutors who came to the house. Julius Caesar had a tutor who taught him and is a sister. Children who did not behave during this time were whipped by their teachers (Freeman 24). When boys were 15 or 16, they were considered adults. Print. The crucifixions began with a man being whipped, humiliated and weakened. After being beaten, the criminal had to carry a cross to the prison yard, the man was nailed and tied naked to the cross (Freeman 39). Brutus' mother, Servilia, ends up being one of Caesar's lovers (Freeman 246). Although Caesar's two friends, Brutus and Cassius, failed him, Caesar was rewarded. Caesar's great-grandnephew Gaius Octavian gathered an army for Caesar and sent it against Brutus and Cassius.
