    For this semester, I chose to address the issue of the healthcare system in the United States. My tentative thesis for the position paper sought is: “The United States federal government should implement a single-payer government-run health care system.” In this particular essay, I intend to present a concise and organized argument that this thesis is strong and important. The main topic is a universal topic for many people; This will allow me to speak to broad swaths of Americans while remaining focused on national legislators, my primary audience. Although this topic is controversial, I believe I can make a valid and compelling argument. The current health care debate in the United States is most likely a topic you have already been exposed to. From the consumer-driven high-deductible concept to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 (ACA), Americans have engaged in lively discussions about the future and current direction of health care in the United States. While celebrities and politicians fight in the media and on social media, the common man ignores the fundamental components of the ACA. Overall, it stands to reason that this debate remains a major component of the national discourse in the United States.
