  • Essay / The Scarlet Ibis Conflict Essay - 764

“[During] the winter, [now] we [are] not making much progress, because I [am] at school and Doodle [suffers] from a one bad cold after another. » (Hurst 114). This statement is important because winter symbolizes the collapse of Doodle and Brother's "development program." The program is just another patch of grass, blinded by sheets of snow. Winter could also symbolize the pause in their progress, by analogy with forest animals during hibernation. “[With spring], rich and warm, we [raise] our sights again. » (Hurst 114). You notice again how the two different seasons lead to different results. Spring symbolizes the beginning of different results that blossom under the raging sun. In contradiction, the spring symbolizes the budding of something that seems so beautiful but is poisoned. This bud is just a simple seedling of hope planted in their hearts, perhaps waiting to be dried by the rays of the sun or perhaps to be drowned by the granules of rain.
