  • Essay / Graffiti - 823

In every community, graffiti is considered vandalism! This is a wrongdoing that is hated in a community as an act of hooliganism. But people don't see the message that graffiti artists are trying to convey to the public. Passing by buildings or train stations, people witness these strange drawings everywhere, usually in the ghetto. But we're missing the message these artists are sending, and I'm not talking about little punks who paint walls with their names but about specific artists who have a message to send. Graffiti is an art form in its own way. It is a more urban style for young people who can express their feelings or interpret their views on today's world into a beautiful masterpiece for people to see. Art is a way for someone to express themselves usually. on what they see, feel, and this is how Picasso and Van Gogh did it. So graffiti is a form of urban art that dates back to the Stone Age and was a way for people to send messages to their lineage by drawing on walls. Even today we can see these messages on the walls, and this is of great importance to historians. Economist Elizabeth Currid-Halkett said: “Cities with more graffiti tend to be cultural and artistic hubs. And street art tends to give a chance to those who don't have the resources to pursue a more traditional art career” (Ferro 1). Graffiti is not an act of vandalism, it is rather a way of urban life, it is a way of marking your stories and getting your message across on the wall if it is personal or if it has a value for the world. Some use it because they want to make a change, as a way to bring awareness to people who need it. Writer Jacob Kimvall expresses his thoughts on the graffiti: "My article will take the opposite point of view to that of the middle of the paper... lent, and this should not be considered vandalism. If you had a Picasso drawing on your wall, would you consider it vandalism or art? So why ruin a Picasso by keeping this drawing because it is the true talent, and the art of this generation.
