Reflecting on LearningTaking this English course has helped me improve my English in many ways. I learned a lot of really important information that I didn't know before entering this course. I'm sure I'm more proficient now than when I first entered this course. Some of the things I learned throughout this course were how to become a better reader and writer. I also learned to write with a purpose. In the past, everything I wrote was based on prompts and essays on books that I didn't understand what I was writing about, and now the writing I do has a specific purpose. There are several methods that I learned this semester that have helped me. significantly improve my reading comprehension. Throughout my reading, I have used a few reading strategies that have been very helpful to me in many ways. In fact, many, if not all good readers, at some point in their lives, use at least one of these reading strategies. A reading strategy I use when reading is: I read everything first without making marks on the reading. Reading the reading once helps me get a general understanding of the material. Once I have a general understanding of what I have read, I read the material again, but this time I use some reading strategies that help me remember the material and understand the reading better. One strategy I really like to use when I read is to highlight or underline any key points that I think are important to the reading. Another reading strategy I use is: If there is a sentence I don't understand, I read it several times until I understand its meaning, then I make a brief note to side explaining what I think the phrase means. I also like to rephrase any sentence I don't say... middle of paper ... our writing looks perfect, but others might see it differently. Receiving feedback from others is extremely important, as peer reviewers will find errors and give suggestions to help improve the writing. The workshops we did in class helped me because every time I received feedback on my writing, I made changes to improve it. There is no doubt that after receiving feedback from others, my writing sounded much better. That said, it is obvious that this English course helped me a lot. I am learning different techniques that have helped me improve both my reading and my writing. Now that I reflect on all the information I have learned, I realize how much better prepared I am when it comes to reading and writing. I will no longer go through readings like I did in the past and I certainly won't do essays the day before they are due like I used to...
