Application 4: Engaging TeachingEngaging TeachingEngaging students in the classroom can be a difficult task. Understanding the student learning process can help a teacher adapt the lesson to meet the needs of all students. I will encounter students who are not intrinsically motivated, so I will need to find different ways to motivate each student. Understanding how my students learn can give me ideas on how to help each student learn, which will minimize classroom management issues. It is important that my students understand and value the learning objectives in class. At the beginning of each chapter, students will receive a preview of what they will encounter in the coming weeks. The plan will be broken down where students can see their daily goals, state standards, activity, and assessment. By providing an overview to students, “it not only gives students an opportunity to review and discuss learning objectives, but also helps them understand the learning process” (Jones & Jones, 2007, p. 250). Students must be actively involved in the learning process, both academically and personally. Students will be challenged to work cooperatively with classmates and individually to complete “a variety of activities designed to stimulate interest and facilitate student growth” (Jones and Jones, p. 257). Increasing student engagement in teaching and learning while minimizing disruptive behavior will be accomplished by asking students to create learning goals related to their own interests and choices. At the beginning of each semester, I will review with students what they will encounter during the semester and we will reflect as the class differs...... middle of article...... different effective teaching approaches. Taking time outside of the class period to inform students of the lesson objectives will prove beneficial in getting a higher quality of work completed by students with less resistance. Students are more likely to engage in tasks that are enjoyable, meaningful, and relevant (Laureate Education, Inc., 2008). My class will have a multitude of different learning styles and I will accommodate these different learning styles when I create my lessons. ReferencesJones, V. and Jones, L. (2007).
