Hip-hop is one of the most popular music genres in the United States. He has a great influence on today's youth, especially young African-American men. This has given them a false image, leading them to believe that much of what rappers talk about is appropriate. Some of the most popular rap songs and lyrics these days are just too graphic for them to listen to at their age. Hip-hop music causes African American men to engage in activities that will negatively affect their futures. In today's culture, hip-hop has become very mainstream. Many teenagers don't realize what they are listening to. The subject matter rappers choose to speak about in their music is significant. The lyrics generally make black teenagers think that it's okay to be a gangster and live a life of crime. Parents teach their kids to say no to drugs while their favorite rapper tells them it's okay. Hip-hop artists such as Young Jeezy promote the use and sale of drugs. In the song “Chickens No Flour,” Young Jeezy sings “We cook chickens without flour / We count money without powder.” Here, Young Jeezy is talking about cocaine without powder and with a sales transaction. Young teenagers who are fans of his music will imitate this activity because he has a powerful influence on them. This is a major problem because it leads to an increase in the number of young black boys selling drugs on the streets. Every day, African-American teenagers find themselves in prison, losing their lives behind bars: “Let us not forget that we must constantly be reminded that half of the prisoners, or one million, are black men. » (“Hipping and Hopping” 7). As Black people, we must begin to see the impact these sinister words have on young people. The lyrics show women in a sexual manner and always refer to them in derogatory terms. In all the videos, the rappers give this ideal look of what a beautiful woman should be. She must have curves, a thin waist, long hair and a big butt. Hip-hop music has had a negative impact on African American teenagers. Although hip-hop is not the only cause affecting young men, it is an important part of many young boys' lives. There certainly needs to be some changes in these lyrics. Artists must understand that they have a responsibility to their fans to advocate a positive attitude and good value for money.
