Avril Lavigne has had a great influence on the world of rock music as we know it today, particularly in the female arena. Although Avril Lavigne wanted to pursue a career in the country world, she ended up primarily sounding pop rock and pop punk to help her blossom more quickly. My artist, Avril Lavigne, plays pop rock and pop punk rooted in both pop and punk. On Biography.com it is stated that Avril Lavigne was born in Belleville, Ontario, but spent most of her childhood in Napanee, Ontario. She began singing at a young age, primarily in church, but was noticed for her talent after entering a Shania Twain competition, with whom she eventually performed. As a teenager, she learned to play guitar and began writing her own music. She signed with Arista Records to fulfill her dream of becoming a famous singer and dropped out of high school to achieve it. She started out in the country genre, but gradually moved toward a punk-pop sound. Although in the last decade she began to move towards more traditional pop music, she brought with her her very punk-rock image, which differentiates her from most other artists in the pop genre.
