    JD Salinger was an American author well known for his best-selling The Catcher in the Rye, a considerably influential novel which described feelings of alienation felt by adolescents in North America after World War II (“Biography of JD Salinger”). Salinger's work appeared in numerous magazines, including a series of short stories that inspired many new authors ("Biography of J.D. Salinger"). His inspiration for the Pencey Prep boarding school in The Catcher in the Rye stems from his own difficult upbringing at a military school (Feeney). Salinger went through a series of emotional events after being drafted into the army during World War II, and it is evident that his story very much reflects his own negative views of the post-trauma world (Feeney). The novel features a teenager who is expelled from his prep school and, on the verge of depression, kills time in New York to avoid returning home and confronting his parents (Andrychuk). It received very mixed reviews and much negative feedback upon its publication, and was accused of "promoting immoral values" ("JD Salinger"). The story's narrator, Holden Caulfield, became one of the most iconic male rebellion characters in history (Feeney). As a result, The Catcher in the Rye is filled with characters who serve as bad role models, and the story's explicit and inappropriate remarks may cause too much damage to go uncensored. The Catcher in the Rye was heavily criticized for profanity, lies, violence and vulgarity, as well as mentions of suicide, drugs and alcohol.
