The Lotus Sutra is honestly a perfect example of a text that can be interpreted in countless ways. Rather than there being only one “right” way to understand a scripture, other scriptures are meant to be interpreted and understood by different people in different ways. Interpretations of the Lotus Sutra are based on a person's personal background and experiences and are not considered invalid for being different from someone else's.
