    Many Westerners often view scripture as an authoritative guide that should be taken literally, while other scriptures are meant to be interpreted in different ways. The Lotus Sutra is honestly a perfect example of a text that can be interpreted in countless ways. Rather than there being only one “right” way to understand a scripture, other scriptures are meant to be interpreted and understood by different people in different ways. These various factors of the Protestant bias could certainly interfere with the study of the Reader's Lotus. not aware of the bias. I feel that Protestant prejudices will most affect the study of the Lotus Sutra as it relates to the interpretation of the scriptures. Rather than a single interpretation being authoritative, the Lotus Sutra produces an infinite number of interpretations. Interpretations of the Lotus Sutra are based on a person's personal background and experiences and are not considered invalid for being different from someone else's.
