  • Essay / Computer-Aided Design and Development - 764

Most of the computer-aided design programs used in writing today may seem new to many people, even though they have been in use for more than a decade. These programs have their origins about 50 years ago. Modern technological designs and drafting are considered to be the result of the development of descriptive geometry in the 16th and 17th centuries. Much of the work to develop computer-aided drafting intensified in the postwar period, with many people working at MIT on numerical control of machine tools and automation of drafting and design. During the 1950s, all drawing work was done by hand. Even if all the writing was done, it often took a long time to complete them. The process was equally tedious. Furthermore, correcting errors made during drawing, even slight ones, would have degrading effects on the sketches, sending the designer back to the drawing board. However, Dr. Paul J. Hanratty invented a numerically controlled program in 1950, which allowed computers to be used to draw simple lines. Most designers have adopted this technology and it has produced better results compared to initially using hands to draw. At the time Dr. Hanratty invented this program, computers were very large; some are even the size of a room. Computers were also few and far between. This led to low availability of the program for most writers, and therefore limited application. Nevertheless, this contribution to computer-aided drafting and design has credited Dr. Hanratty as the father of CADD. Research has continued to develop more sufficient programs to ensure that designers have an easier, faster and more accurate time preparing their designs. MIT researchers then developed...... middle of article ......e integration of analysis, improvements in modeling and management of the products created marked the modern era of computer-aided design. The management of the programs created included engineering and design as well as the manufacturing of the products, their marketing and sale, and their possible maintenance. It is believed that most computer-aided design work has not changed, but simply updated its interfaces and added functionality to programs. AutoCAD has been developed in interfaces using Macintosh, Windows and other PC interfaces available at affordable prices. Compared to previous years of writing and designing, writing has become easier and more efficient since errors can be corrected without having to start again. Program and computer costs are also affordable and are commercially available..
