  • Essay / Founding Brothers: The Revolutionary Generation

America was born and survived, its difficult path to nationhood, through a series of events or moments in history. The Founding Brother's book talks about some important people during and after the American Revolution. These important figures were Alexander Hamilton, Aaron Burr, John Adams, George Washington, James Madison and Thomas Jefferson. Each of these men contributed in one way or another to the building of America. The book divides these contributions into a few short stories, to help understand what these important figures did. For anyone to understand what lesson Joseph Ellis was trying to teach, one must first understand these five short stories. The first story to review and understand is called the duel. The duel is one of the most historic conflicts in history. The duel actually grew out of years of personal and political resentment between Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr. These two men were very tense during the race for governor of New York. Since Burr was a candidate in this race and the duel took place during the era when dueling was becoming outlawed, the duel had broad political ramifications. With the duel going badly and Alexander Hamilton dying, Burr, under the stature of New York and New Jersey, was indicted, but all charges were later dismissed, ending Burr's career. It can be concluded that the importance of the duel lies in the fact that violence in the early American state was strongly political. What makes the duel particularly important is the fact or tendency, after a revolution, that revolutionaries turn on each other in an inevitable bloodbath. Ellis seems to be siding more with Hamilton and making him look like a saint. The...... middle of paper...... the essential power. The speech also helps America remain neutral in any foreign war, giving it time to build and prosper. It is an important piece of history that has helped shape the current government and most of the United States' foreign policies and relations. So, among all the stories, we would find this one to be the most important, and we would perhaps read it again. In conclusion, the Founding Brother's book is a unique set of short stories. The stories show and explain important parts of American history. Additionally, the stories primarily focused on America's founders like Thomas Jefferson. Overall, after reading and understanding these stories, one can conclude that the author was leaning towards Hamilton. Also, through trust, hard work and dedication, these men built an incredible country, which today has become a global power..
