  • Essay / Compare and contrast The Hound of the Baskervilles...

The Hound of the Baskervilles written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and the film The Hound of the Baskervilles directed by Jeremy Bret are two works of art that tell mostly the same thing. history. There are, however, many differences between the book and the film. These differences don't affect the outcome of the story, but they give the story less impact. Besides the differences, there are many similarities, and these similarities give you confidence that it is the same story. A major difference in the film that was not in the book was that the beginning scene of the film took place on the moor with Sir Charles being attacked by the Hound. In the book, the starting scene was when Watson and Holmes had just found a cane with the initials CCH on it. I think the beginning scene of the film was more informative because it let you know what was happening and it also gave the film more suspense. In the film, Holmes, at first, was much more proud and rude to Watson and the people in the film. in general, but later Holmes was much kinder and somewhat humble at least compared to the book. This difference made the viewer like Holmes' character less and it almost seemed like the director was trying to save Holmes' character by making him kinder in the end. The difference had a big impact on the feel of the film because it felt like it was so stuck that it was rather inaccessible. ...... middle of paper ...... helps in the book that the maid died of exhaustion after running, so it had to be a bit bigger than how the movie made it filmed. I imagined all the characters differently, but those are just personal opinions and everyone would have those opinions. I was generally happy with the film, as it stayed pretty close to the descriptions in the book and the storyline. The scenario has not changed, except for the death of the Dog. The book and the movie had a lot more differences and similarities, but they had the same storyline. Work cited by Doyle, Sir Arthur Conan. The Hound of the Baskervilles.
