    Looking at Poem 16, Sappho focuses on the beginnings of the Trojan War and ultimately the epic Iliad is not about Achilles' rage, the feud between Agamemnon and Achilles, or the victory of Hector. about the subsequent reprisals of Patroclus and Achilles, but it is more about love. Sappho's poem is about Helen's love, the power of love and how it is greater than that of any army, navy, parents or children. While in Homer's Iliad the theme is masculinity and action, Sappho offers a narrative of a more loving and peaceful nature. In poem 44, Sappho references characters from the Iliad, but the outcome of Homer's and Sappho's writings is very different. Sappho's poem talks about the marriage of Hector and Andromache, key characters in the Iliad. The poem is incredibly descriptive, much like Homer's Iliad, but the scenes and feeling of Sappho's poem are much gentler. Rather than the brutal chaos of war and the taking of young wives as rewards for army leaders, the joyful scene of marriage, love and celebration in Sappho's poem would certainly have aroused a feeling of happiness and would have perhaps leads many young readers to look forward to a wedding celebration of the same kind
