  • Essay / My Teacher, Mrs. Hastings' Battle with Cancer - 1324

The bell rang, a first day, a first start for the next 13 years, I was going to this thing my parents were trying to explain to me . This thing, everyone congratulated me on graduating from preschool and now I've moved on. A new beginning, now I had to get away from everything I knew. I really didn't understand, let alone trying to spell this monstrosity called "school" was an absolute disaster. To be that kid who woke up and said “first day of school!” was never me, I was this kid who was a little scared and a little petrified. But I remember the day I walked into this thing called a classroom. It was a new room and a new atmosphere, almost a whole new world. But suddenly this huge giant stood in front of me. I didn't even realize what was going to happen or what she was going to say to me. Thinking, maybe I went to a new world and suddenly a giant towered over me right in front of me, like the new worlds my mother always read to me at night, right before I went to bed . I didn't know who she was or what she was going to do. Suddenly, in the sweetest way, she came down to my level and said, “You must be Alexander?” I'm Mrs. Hastings, I'm your kindergarten teacher! "Now, if you want to go sit on that circular rug over there with your friend...Jacob, then I'll meet you there." I was so confused, but I didn't worry too much like the giant said, I had my best friend by my side. But during the school year, Mrs. Hastings was pretty cool. But trying to properly impress 5 and 6 year olds, let's just say it's not the hardest thing to do. Anyone can do it, just throw a few holiday parties, then hand out tons of candy and bam, you get an Oscar for being the best teacher in the world! Believe me, Mrs. Hastings threw the b...... middle of paper ...... Now that I look back, I'm glad that Mrs. Hastings taught me these truths. Almost on the horizon for college and I'm taking more difficult classes as the school year goes on. It's something that I keep in mind so as not to get discouraged and that I continue to try. But for teaching me and making a difference in my life, beating cancer and being herself is why she should be inducted into the Lincoln County Hall of Fame. Yes, I know she didn't ride a bull for eight seconds, but to me she was the bull in beating cancer for 8 months. But that giant from 12 years ago turned out to be a teacher who had a huge impact on me and who will make me remember so many things and who will make me try and strive to achieve everything within my reach. But for many other unknown reasons, Mrs. Hastings will be the best teacher that has ever had an impact on me. Hastings
