  • Essay / A Chosen Exile: A Story of Racial Transmission in America...

This article is based on the life of Naomi. Naomi has a different opinion than Cara Liebowitz. Naomi has a less visible disability, so she comes across as someone who doesn't have a disability. Naomi believed that overcoming disability was not a privilege. Since Naomi has a less visible face, people thought she was a person without a disability. People with invisible disabilities have a difficult time compared to visible disabilities. People pay more attention to visible disability and don't even think about people with invisible disabilities. With this in mind, who do you think would have a higher suicide rate? These are obviously invisible disabled people, since they receive no attention, no help and are even treated like non-disabled people. “'Passing' is not a privilege, because it ultimately means we are not accepted anywhere. . . being successful is just another type of disadvantage. This quote shows how the author feels; Naomi passes for an able body, therefore no one knows she has a disability. And now Naomi should work twice as hard and be twice as careful as anyone else.
