  • Essay / FORREST ANDERSON PERSONAL INFORMATION - 1035

This is an application for entry into the School of Humanities, La Trobe University as a mature aged student. Below is a brief overview of my school and post-school experiences. I successfully completed my VCE at Daylesford Primary College and have since worked in a number of industries which have provided me with a range of skills which I have been able to apply to apprenticeships. During this period, I maintained an intellectual interest in politics, law and the social sciences. Having left school, worked and experienced life, I am now ready to return to formal study. To this end, I am mentally prepared and disciplined enough to start and complete a degree. After looking at a number of institutions and subjects on offer, I discovered that La Trobe School of Humanities is the particular area of study I am looking for. Throughout my high school years, I enjoyed learning, but due to the restrictions of broad and defined course structure via public education I did not find many subjects that interested me at that time (other as English, history and arts). I felt that there was no academic path among the options offered that matched my interests and I felt like a trade or physical labor would be a better option. At that time, I was still searching for my social individuality, which led me to want to learn more about other ideas and concepts. Rural public high schools with limited resources struggle to move away from the average teaching method and subject offerings. This led to limited choices for people who wanted to study alternative paths in their quest for intellectual and academic development. Once I turned 18 and finished school, I went into hospitality full time......in the middle of my studies. .....at the same time, I can develop my personal academic interests and be in a place that will constantly challenge me in areas of learning that I am passionate about. I have lived in Kingsbury for 2 years, have flexible, ongoing employment in West Heidelberg and am currently looking for long term accommodation in the same area. This will make studying at La Trobe University financially and residentially sustainable. As I stated above, I successfully completed my secondary education at VCE. Since then, I have learned many valuable professional and personal skills, traveled, maintained and pursued intellectual interest in a number of fields. I am now at a maturity where I know what I want to do as a career and I have the discipline to acquire the necessary qualifications. I have developed good time management and organizational skills that I will apply to my studies.
