Restructure current contracts with external carriers to incentivize these carriers, 3. Integrate technology into the fleet to increase the efficiency and automate back-office processes. How do we know this is a problem/opportunity? In order to meet customer demands and keep trucking costs at manageable levels, the correct number of trucks must be maintained at all times. I believe the best way to achieve this is to have an in-house seasonal fleet of trucks that makes up 80% of the total fleet, with the remaining 20% ​​made up of external carriers. By having a greater percentage of in-house trucks, a company is able to maintain a greater level of control over its jobs and employees, whereas with external carriers, the ability to discipline may be more difficult.
