  • Essay / The Use of Propaganda in World War II - 676

Propaganda is the art of persuasion and it had a major influence on World War II. Each country involved in the war had its own way of using propaganda to influence the public in different ways. Some countries have been more forceful in presenting their propaganda to their countries. Many types of propaganda were used during World War II. Books, radio, films, comics and posters were intended for the public to put them in a certain mentality about the war. Each country's propaganda had different effects on the public. Nazi Germany's use of propaganda had a greater impact on the public than the propaganda of Canada, the United States, and Great Britain. Nazi Germany's use of propaganda was very different from Canada's and, as such, had a much greater impact on society. Canadian propaganda consisted mainly of posters and, occasionally, radio. Posters produced by Canada during the Second World War focused primarily on the benefits of war and its glorification. Many posters urged the public to buy victory bonds, ration what few supplies they had, and emphasize the importance of the fight for freedom. Nazi Germany's propaganda extended from newspapers to films. Germany has imposed a negative mentality on its country. They led the public to think that all Jews, communists, and anyone Germany considered a threat were deep down and worth less than everyone else. The difference between Canada's use of propaganda and Nazi Germany is that Canada used propaganda to present its country in a positive light. While Germany, on the other hand, puts its country in a negative state of mind. Germany used propaganda different from glorifying war, unlike Canada, which had a greater impact on the public. During World War II, the United States and Nazi Germany...... middle of paper ......mes, promoting hatred against Jews, as well as bombing enemy countries. Nazi Germany wanted children on their side, unlike Britain who did not want children excluded from the war. Because Germany involved its children in propaganda by creating board games, comics, and films, it was much easier for them to gain control and self-awareness. This had a great impact not only on German children, but also on their adults. It is clear that Canada, the United States, Great Britain, and Nazi Germany all used different methods to use propaganda during World War II. Nazi Germany's propaganda had a greater impact on the public in all of these countries because it was not about glorifying the war, they were much more forceful in their use of radio and they took the control of children. Propaganda uses prejudice to promote a political cause, and Nazi Germany had the most powerful propaganda of World War II..
