  • Essay / Essay on Political Correctness - 770

The institute of Marxism or in other words political correctness, started in Germany in 1923, the main objective at that time was to find a way to implement the communism in Russia. As we all know, communism believes in social group and not individual. Political correctness concerns social communication and aims to replace offensive remarks considered discriminatory against certain segments of society. Robert Allen also defined political correctness by saying that "the political correctness movement is also dedicated to promoting alternative terminology that seeks to affirm a shift from positive to negative qualities." Since the inception of the term political correctness, it has gone through three stages: the first was used favorably to those whose views remained in tune with each changing Bolshevik party, the second stage was in the 1960s and once again it was used favorably by new left-wing radicals. The final stage occurred when it was used negatively by American conservatives. Political correctness has three categories: the first is offensive, like gay or retard, these words refer to people as insults for an undesirable concept. The second is subtle like policeman and postman, these words affect our way of thinking because they imply that these roles are reserved for men, the last is blatant like n-word for black, these words are very offensive. In summary, political correctness is a term used to describe language to minimize offense (I love the English language). The newspaper discusses political correctness with articles that are for it and others that are against it. Like everything in the world, political correctness has its supporters and supporters. Mr. Younkins is among those who oppose political correctness that builds an inclusive society in which people from diverse backgrounds are offered equal opportunities. Another article that defends political correctness talks about people who are against this movement and don't want to be polite or civil with people different from them, the important thing for these people is to do what they want when they want even if they used a hurtful word, they don't care (angry black woman 2007). This article ends by saying that political correctness is very important to the language and we need to fight for it, so let's make sure people use it. Allan Goldstein agrees with both authors before saying that "political correctness is a small price to pay for keeping the peace between large groups of outraged people." He means people don't like political correctness but we need it so people can live in peace.
