    PopulationThe current population of the Federative Republic of Brazil is estimated at approximately 199.321 million people. The population increased by approximately 1.3% compared to the last population record. The population of Brazil is larger than that of Mexico, but it is smaller than that of the United States of America. Based on the country's area and total population, Brazil's population density is approximately 60.63 people per square mile (World Population Statistics 2014). Ethnicity Brazil's largest ethnic group identifies as white, 55% of the population is white. The second largest ethnic group is mulattoes, who make up approximately 38% of the population. The rest of the Brazilian population is made up of Asians, Native Americans and Blacks, making up 10% of the population. The official language of Brazil is Portuguese, spoken by the majority of the population, but as Brazil is the only country in the Americas to speak Portuguese, the language is an important aspect of culture and society (World Population Statistics 2014).GDPThe gross domestic product (GDP) in Brazil increased to 0.70 percent in the fourth quarter of 2013 compared to the previous quarter (Trending Economics 2014). The GDP growth rate in Brazil is reported by the Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (IBGE). Brazil's GDP growth rate averaged 0.74 percent between 1996 and 2013, reaching an all-time high of 4.50 percent in the third quarter of 1996 and a record low of -4.20 percent. in the fourth quarter of 2008 (Trending Economics 2014).
