This wasn't my first time watching Dial 'M' for Murder. This is another classic film that I saw in my high school English class and really enjoyed it. The main plot of Dial 'M' for Murder takes place in London, where wealthy Margot Mary Wendice, played by Grace Kelly, had a brief romance with American writer Mark Halliday (Robert Cummings) a year before the current plot while her husband and professional tennis player Tony Wendice (Ray Milland) traveled to a tennis tournament. Tony stops playing tennis to devote his life to his wife and finds a regular job after discovering the affair. He then blackmails an old college friend into murdering his wife when things go wrong. Like most of Hitchcock's films, Dial 'M' for Murder was an adaptation of another art form, a popular play by Frederick Knott. As Knott also wrote the screenplay, the film remains extremely faithful to the play, although of course it has some differences. Knott's script was wonderfully constructed and the dialogue was witty and simply captivating, with many twists and turns that added to the complex plot and kept it from being boring. It was pure entertainment at its finest. As usual, Hitchcock directs this film masterfully and has the right actors to do the job. Ray Milland and Grace Kelly deliver very good performances and surprisingly, Robert Cummings does a rather good job in his role as Mark Halliday. People tend to forget that Grace Kelly starred in Dial 'M' for Murder, given that 1954 was a big year for Grace Kelly. She starred in Hitchcock's classic "Rear Window" and won the Academy Award for best actress in "The Country Girl." Although she is not known for her role in this film, she brought a unique quality to this ...... middle of paper ...... written from a clever but capable script that n never got too deep. Alfred Hitchcock manipulates and captivates his audience like the master he is. Each scene has a sense of direction, good pacing, and is realistically staged. The plot revolves entirely around the key. This is the clue that literally reveals the mystery. This sends the message that even the perfect crime can have one minor overlooked detail that leads to the complete collapse of the entire plan. Overall, I really enjoyed this movie and would recommend more people to watch it. The acting was superb, the storyline captivating and the characters very intriguing. I honestly can't think of any other movie that works so well with only one setting used. The movie was great and the mystery behind it kept me hooked and I would love to see this movie in 3D as it was originally presented..
