  • Essay / Human Dignity by Francis Fukuyama - 1177

In his work “Human Dignity”, Francis Fukuyama explores the perception of human dignity in today's society. This perception is defined by what Fukuyama calls the “X factor.” This article draws attention to how human dignity has been affected recently and how it is declining as we move into the future. Using the Dalai Lama's contribution in his article "Ethics and New Genetics", the implementation of the X factor and human dignity on future generations will be explored. Through the use of the pieces, “Human Dignity and Human Reproductive Cloning by Steven Malby, Genetic Testing and Its Implications: Human Genetics Researchers Grapple with Ethical Questions by Isaac Rabino, and Gender Differences in the Perception of Genetic Engineering applied to human reproduction by Carol L. Napolitano and Oladele A. Ogunseitan, the decline of human dignity in today's society as well as the regression of the X factor that can be seen today compared to the past . Society's twist on ethics due to pop culture and increase in genetic engineering has caused the decline of dignity exhibited by members of society and the regression of the X factor in today's society today. Francis Fukuyama describes the X factor as “the only essential human quality that deserves a certain minimal level of respect” (Fukuyama 186). The X factor is at the heart of what we call human dignity. In today's society, we see a regression in the quantity of factor X and a decline in demonstrated human dignity. In the past, it was common for people to respect each other and themselves because it was simply commonplace in society at that time. The treatment of women by men and other women best shows the "f...... middle of paper ......cs and the new genetics", the way in which the X factor and human dignity are will spread in society in the future. that it is society's moral responsibility to continue to show others respect and dignity. Through the use of the pieces “Human Dignity and Human Reproductive Cloning” by Steven Malby, “Genetic Testing and Its Implications: Human Genetics Researchers Struggle with Ethical Questions” by Isaac Rabino, and “Gender Differences in Perception Genetic Engineering Applied to Human Reproduction", by Carol L. Napolitano and Oladele A. Ogunseitan, the decline of human dignity in today's society as well as the regression of the X factor that we can see today compared to past times and how the increase in genetic factor engineering has caused even more obstacles, for the spread of human dignity and the X factor to all members of society, to overcome.
