    Starting with the Dual Enrollment Program for high school students, ESL classes for non-English speaking legal residents, and Adult Basic Education classes for GED applicants, through the Numerous college transfer programs are available for those planning to continue their education at one of Arizona's premier universities. Staff members in the Division of Core Studies provide guidance for successfully moving students into their current and next degree programs. Through these programs and its dedicated staff, FSD not only embodies the definition of “quality higher education,” but also provides much-needed services to community members and their diverse cultural and educational needs. Last week I interviewed members of the Basic Studies Division staff about their various departments and about FSD in general. I found every staff member to be extremely helpful and enthusiastic about helping me with my project. One of the great people I spoke with was Dean Dean Holbrook. Dean Holbrook is the Dean of Basic Studies and oversees the English, Mathematics, Communications and Student Success departments as well as the college's Dual Enrollment and Adult Basic Education programs. Dean Holbrook holds a bachelor's degree in engineering mathematics and a master's degree in teaching and teacher education; both of which he obtained at the University of Arizona. Cheryl Casey, the Public Liaison for the Adult Basic Education program and GED Coordinator, were also very helpful. When asking Cheryl what her position entailed, she responded, "I handle all of our registrations, orientations, testing, participate in curriculum design, teach all GED subjects, and assist our students to take their exams. .....the vision not only met the requirements placed upon them in Yavapai College's mission statement, but exceeded them.
