    Letter to the editor AssignmentLetter from Jean-Jacques RousseauAfter reading an article written in the Globe and Mail describing the latest scandal of the current mayor of Toronto, Rob Ford, various statements caught my attention. It shocks me that such behavior is tolerated by the community after receiving what I consider to be a disingenuous apology. I believe Mayor Ford sums up everything that is wrong with our political system. His actions prove that he believes himself to be above the will of the people, taking advantage of their freedom when he should be prioritizing the needs of the community. While it is undeniable that Mayor Ford was elected by public choice, that does not give him the right to do as he pleases, he is only a representative of Toronto. With this in mind, I dispute that the citizens of Toronto should have the right to impeach Mayor Ford. Everyone is equal, including Rob Ford, and he should not be above the general will of the public simply because of his status as an elected official. On the contrary, I believe that it is the people who are the source of sovereignty and hold the greatest power. Mayor Ford seems to have forgotten his role in society and his position within the political system. The article explains that there is no way to remove him from office without criminal charges, but they are unable to obtain sufficient evidence because he was not in possession of any illegal substances. It is absurd that such power could be given to one man and taken away from the community that gave it to him.
