  • Essay / Teenage Dream: Katy Perry - 810

Everyone, at some point in their life, has experienced or is experiencing being a teenager. A time of insecurity and self-doubt, adolescence leaves us begging for someone to inspire us, entertain us, agree with us, and shock us. Many teenagers today find inspiration in music and specific artists, like Katy Perry. Katy Perry plays the role of a teen idol on stage, producing songs of empowerment and living the moment that teens and adults long to hear. However, Katy Perry hasn't always been such a widespread source of uplifting and upbeat music. The history of her personality and the direction of her music has changed over the years, her most popular stage demeanor has been that of a vintage beauty queen dressed in candy, and her personality identifies with whatever teenagers want. Katy Perry has had many stage personas. in her career, first producing music under a Christian label as a pastor's daughter, then producing controversial songs such as "I Kissed a Girl" and "Last Friday Night". The NPRmusic team wrote about Perry's transformation, saying, "Her fans know that her current career is really just a second take." She first dabbled in the music business as a teenager, making Christian music under the name Katy Hudson. She released an album in 2001, which failed to break through. » (NPR staff). Although Katy's career didn't take off when she was producing music as a pastor's sweet daughter, she later took to audiences around the world with her teen idol persona. It was 2008 when Katy Perry released her album. “One of the Boys” when his now famous teen idol character was introduced to the world. From the release of this album, Katy Perry started to present herself in a different angle...... middle of paper ...... combined, I think she is a perfect source of entertainment for teenagers, with their guilt- free songs that correspond only to what is acceptable. After her failed first album under the Christian music label, Katy Perry will always be remembered for her unpredictable and borderline costumes and incredible performances. As she gets older, her lyrics will likely start to deepen, but will continue to get teens singing along and finding. wisdom within music.Works CitedLemoine, Yoann. Katy Perry “Teenage Dream”.
