  • Essay / Dominik Zoric: A Short Story - 712

Kaleo Kealoha who is the senior DVM on staff and alerted him that Mr. Zoric was arriving with Nela with suspected pyometra. He gathered the vet techs into the most aseptic treatment room and gathered the supplies that would be needed if my hypothesis was correct regarding the diagnosis. Around 6:45 a.m., Mr. Zoric and Nela arrived. I immediately took his vitals and weight. She had lost about 15 pounds since June, which, even on a larger dog like a Dalmatian, is concerning. His vital signs were about normal, except for his temperature which was a few degrees higher than normal, which can be a sign of an infection anywhere in the body. I took Nela's leash and led her to the exam room where Dr. Kealoha was waiting. Dr. Kealoha looked at the vital signs, then took a sample of the discharge from the vaginal area, while I held her up on the floor with her tail elevated. He ordered an x-ray to confirm his suspicions, I then took Nela to the x-ray room where 2 technicians were waiting for her.
