Technology has a major role to play in both our work/school life and our daily personal lives. Over the years, technology has developed and changed to meet customer demands and needs, but often the needs are exceeded by those of large commercial companies. “Technology is a human activity and, therefore, humans drive its development” (O'Reilly 2014). These major technological changes and developments have had a huge impact on the surrounding world, which continues to grow. Increasing levels of toxic and harmful gases in the global atmosphere, caused by the industrialization of many countries, provide a further catalyst for the causes of global warming. The increase and development of technology in the manufacturing world has flourished over the past fifteen years and although this has had great impacts on local and global economies, the world and the earth have had to pay the price . With the ever-changing water levels and ozone layer, people in everyday society have had to pay the price and live with the destruction that these so-called world leading countries have inflicted on the rest. Like anything, there are two sides to every story and, in this case, there are many positives to be had from the growth and development of these technologies. Over the past decade there has been a global construction boom, which has led to an increase in jobs directly involved in construction itself, but also to the development of the technology involved in the machines and tools used in construction.Technology has a major role to play in daily life, including the classroom. And just like in the outside world, these technologies have their pros and cons. As we have seen in the lectures, through our case studies and Willie Smits' TED talks, understanding the technology we use in daily life has a major role in the development of new technologies and the development of the global exploitation of its resources such as oil and timber and the effect this has on its environment, not only the environmental impact on the world but also the impact it has on the humans who live and work with these technologies. Integrating these technologies is a good step in terms of reducing our impact on things overall, but it comes at a price. If used and implemented correctly, the use of these technologies will not only benefit us and the next generation, but also other generations to come..
