Peer-reviewed articles and theoretical evidence provided to explain how we change individual perceptions of professionals using nonverbal behaviors thereby affecting client health outcomes. Tips and strategies for improving client/professional relationships are included.1.4 MethodologyTo complete this report, data was collected over a 5-week period using resources from the Internet and the University Library . Theoretical proofs were also taken from the communication theory textbook. Data was collected and analyzed from numerous authors of peer-reviewed articles that addressed to varying degrees the many aspects of nonverbal communication.2.0 Overview of nonverbal communication and its relationship to dietetics and nutrition. Nonverbal communication plays an integrating role for successful client/professional relationships in the field of dietetics and nutrition. Nonverbal communication affects how we, as a person, perceive our level of empathy, confidence and competence, and therefore can affect successful client outcomes. Clothing and adornment, paralinguistics, and gestures are aspects of nonverbal communication that are used to converse consciously or unconsciously, conveying a message to another about oneself and one's purpose.
