    Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter are just some of the most commonly used words in today's language of children, teens, and adults. Such words can be described as popular terms related to what many of us call social media. In today's culture, many teens are so reliant on social media use that issues once considered revolutionary are now playing out offline and online. In fact, many cases of mental addiction, depression, and even suicide all stem from initial use of sites such as Facebook, which are otherwise socially accepted as simply a means of communicating with "friends." Although social media has some benefits, it can also be blamed for several negative events in the lives of today's teens. One of the main factors contributing to the strong growth of social media among adolescents is the increase in production and demand for devices such as iPhones and tablets. Electronic devices such as these allow teenagers and people of all ages to quickly socialize with other people over the Internet on social networking sites. The attachment and dependence on these devices has even driven much of our generation's social and emotional development patterns. While cell phones have been shown to improve some emergency situations, they cause anxiety. Recent studies have shown that “anxious and socially insecure people use Facebook more…probably because those who are anxious find it easier to communicate via social media than face to face” (Fitzgerald, 2012).
