Nonviolence Speaks to PowerMany individuals preach to other individuals to use physical conduct to achieve their ends. Many think that violence is the answer to their case, but this is not the case, as Mohamad Gandhi once said: "I cannot teach you violence, because I do not believe in it myself- even. I can only teach you not to bow your head to anyone, even at the cost of your life” (Good Readings 1). Many civil rights leaders believed in the use of nonviolence. According to the Peace Pledge Union Project, nonviolence means “refraining from the use of physical force to achieve an objective” (Nonviolence What It's All About 1). Nonviolence can be used in terms of ethnic philosophy as well as political philosophy. Ethnic philosophy is not so commonly used in today's times and it was not used in ancient times either. From my personal recollection, it takes a strong person with a strong mind to use ethical philosophy. However, civil rights activists such as Mohammad Gandhi and Petra Kelly have used this type of violence in their political movements. This meant that they relied on their moral behavior to exclude any recourse to violence. Historical criticism will be used to show how the education of Petra Kelly and Muhammad Gandhi led to their expression in their literary works as well as the effect this had on their training in nonviolence. Mohammed Gandhi was a budding child who had many opportunities as a young child and early adulthood. Gandhi was an individual who was fortunate to be born into a privileged class and would receive an education, but at his young age he did not take advantage of this. Noted in the article Mohamata Gandhi, "[he married at the age of thirteen and had four children]" (Mohamata Gandh...... middle of paper ......ence in the mutually, they expressed the idea that Violence was never the answer one got later in life if one refrained from violence These two perpetrators were all. two of the incredible political figures who accomplished a lot through historical criticism as readers we could see that civil rights leaders were really fighting for one thing from a young age and that was nonviolence. According to “Nonviolence: An Introduction,” “in recent years there has been a dramatic increase in the number of people around the world who have taken part in nonviolent political action” (Weber & Burrows 1). As many individuals continue to take a stand and participate in nonviolent political action, because of their inspiring stories, pro-civil rights individuals, like these two, will always be a source of inspiration for their dedication and determination..
