    Everyone fears injury. When a person is injured or does not feel well, they go to the emergency room (ER). While in great pain, he finds himself caught in the chaos of the emergency room where he must wait, sometimes for hours, for an emergency doctor. Emergency room doctors do their best to help patients feel better, ordering many tests that help them figure out what's wrong. Eventually, the patients all leave the hospital feeling much better than when they arrived. Emergency physicians provide primary care to multitudes of patients entering hospital emergency rooms with illnesses and injuries spanning a broad spectrum, from acute infections to life-threatening conditions. To become an emergency room doctor, one must begin by earning an undergraduate degree from an accredited college. (“Emergency room doctor salary”). In college, most people major in biology or chemistry, but it is not necessary for students to pursue a pre-medical degree program in college. Nonetheless, students will be required to complete all required sciences, including organic and inorganic chemistry, biology, microbiology, and anatomy. Another requirement for getting into medical school is taking the MCAT, which students often take during their third year of undergraduate study ("Emergency Room Doctors"). Only a fraction of the tens of thousands of applicants who apply to U.S. medical schools are accepted. In addition to academics, medical schools look for diverse and well-rounded people. The first two years of medical school are devoted to classroom and laboratory work. Students study more science while taking courses in psychology, medical ethics and law. Emergency physicians are specialists who treat victims of accidents or sudden illnesses, while making quick, accurate judgments and functioning as a team leader.
