    John Wilkes Booth is best known for the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. Booth was born on May 10, 1838 near Bel Air, Maryland, in a large log cabin, to his mother, Mary Ann Holmes, and father, Junius Brutus Booth. John's mother and father left Britain for England and settled here in America. His father's bad habits made the home depressing, and the fact that his family was wealthy and owned slaves may have led to his hatred of Abraham Lincoln. Booth lived a very attractive life, from living a privileged life to being able to travel after his death. There are many theories and conspiracies about his life starting on April 26, 1865, where he was allegedly burned and shot years later under the name David George. The fascinating life of John Wilkes Booth will now be examined and explained. John Wilkes Booth had a very privileged childhood even though he was the second youngest of ten children. John's mother was a hopeless romantic who later told him that on the night he was born she asked God to give her a clue about his future and she said that in the flames of the open hearth there were letters that spelled out the word “country”. . She believed this meant he would have to endure the fires of persecution, but would emerge as a patriot in the final act. John's father was a well-known and eccentric actor with a drinking problem. John and his siblings grew up on a farm in Baltimore where the family's slaves worked. John would occasionally take horse-drawn carriage trips with his family to the nearby villages of Bel Air and Hickory, where he would listen to the fascinating stories the old men told about their experiences in the American Revolution. His support for slavery came from his wealthy slave owning family and was probably the reason he disliked Lincoln because he was an abolitionist. It is believed that he was never killed by the government and that the government was embarrassed and simply claimed that he was killed in Garrett's barn. They also thought he had become David George because there was so much bodily evidence that he was John Wilkes Booth.
