The biggest problem the government faces when making a decision on faith healing is where to draw the line. If the government allows parents to use religion as an excuse to kill their children, what other actions can we justify on the basis of religion? If we apply this same reasoning to other cases, mass murderers might go on shooting sprees and then use religion as an excuse. If we allow religion and divine instructions to become a defense, then we open the door for all killers to escape prosecution. From a Christian Scientist's perspective, the death of a child could also be seen as a message from God. Many parents believe that losing their child and letting him go to God is a much better alternative than disobeying the Bible and receiving medical treatment. Those who practice the Christian Science faith believe that what they do is completely right in the eyes of God....
