The Great Gatsby is considered one of the best works of American literature by many critics and authors. It's not because it was an interesting novel, it's because it represented the time well. This showed how many scandalous and immoral acts revolved around major characters like Gatsby, Daisy, and Tom. These characters were shown having affairs, repeatedly breaking the law, and being immoral. Colors in The Great Gatsby were extremely important because they show the symbolism behind objects and characters. The white color represents impurity. Green symbolizes desirable but unattainable objects or people. Yellow is the color of death and corruption. These colors help show that impurity, wealth and corruption can lead to a person's immorality. White is generally represented as a clean or pure color. In The Great Gatsby, he represents false purity. This color is one of the most symbolic as it is placed throughout the book. “They both wore white and their dresses billowed and floated as if they had just been brought back after a short flight around the house (Fitzgerald 8).” Jordan and Daisy were supposed to look pure and innocent, but they both have flaws. “She was incurably dishonest. She was unable to stand being at a disadvantage and, given this reluctance, I suspect she had started resorting to subterfuge from a very young age in order to maintain that cold, insolent smile (Fitzgerald 58) . Jordan is sardonic and very surly; she is irritable and judges others with contempt. Daisy, on the other hand, let Gatsby take responsibility for Myrtle's death and he ended up murdered. “‘Did Daisy drive?’ ‘Yes,’ he said after a while (Fitzgerald 143).” Daisy betrayed Gat...... middle of paper...... murderous and is impure. Immorality has been demonstrated in many characters in the novel, but Daisy is one of the most immoral due to her murder. There are many themes in the novel The Great Gatsby. One of the most obvious is that wealth and other factors can lead to corruption and immorality. White was an impurity, showing how not all people are good, even if they fit the role. If they are usually described as wearing white, they are likely dishonest and corrupt people in the novel. Green being the desirable color, Gatsby obtained illegal wealth just to get the green light, which represents Daisy. Murder is one of the most immoral acts in The Great Gatsby, especially when Daisy flees the crime and doesn't get caught. The Great Gatsby is a great work of literature because it shows how wealth, impurity and murder can lead to immorality in a person..
