  • Essay / The Death of Edward - 1446

The Death of EdwardEdward, the android depicted in Tim Burton's film Edward Scissorhands, is essentially killed from society because he falls victim to the malicious lies propagated by the community and cultivated hatred. by these lies. Although he never physically dies, Edward's rejection of society leads him to permanent isolation, far from the outside world. The events that lead Edward into this isolation are brought about by some misunderstood acts he commits and the negative reception of these acts by an impressionable community. He is caught committing a break-in (a crime for which he is not entirely responsible but no one gives him the benefit of the doubt) and is therefore considered a dangerous criminal. He is also considered a sexual predator because a town woman claims he sexually assaulted her. Edward is a good person and he's not even a real human being. He is kinder and more honest than the real human beings who live in the community. It is important to Joyce, Esmeralda, and Jim that Edward can be definable and that they can recognize him as someone with emotions and motivations. However, Edward makes no sense to any of them and their prejudices continue to exist because they do not and will not take the time to understand that Edward's differences are actually not as horrible as they are. 'they claim it..
