Cancer is the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells in the body. Tumors are then created and interfere with the digestive, nervous and circulatory systems. It is one of the leading causes of death, with an estimated 8.2 million deaths in 2012. The number of cancers is expected to increase from 14 million to 22 million over the next two decades. With more than 100 cancer research centers in the United States studying how to treat this disease, people need to understand the importance of donation also by being aware of the signs and symptoms in the early stages. But what do we do about it? Do we have the technology to finally put an end to this deadly disease? In the 15th century, scientists began to better understand the human body. Giovanni Morgangi was the first to perform autopsies on patients to establish a link with their illnesses as well as the discovery of cancer after their death. This laid the foundation for scientific oncology, the study of cancer. Over the years, scientists have realized that the disease they thought they were distinguishing was very different from the diseases they are currently studying. There are more than 200 types of cancer in the world today. Scientists continue to study every day to get closer to a cure for this terrible disease. Susan G. Komen is a breast cancer awareness and research center that seeks to end breast cancer forever. Breast cancer is one of the most common types of cancer among women. The research center organizes a “Race for a Cure” race each year to raise funds for breast cancer patients. They fund research not only in the United States, but also in 17 other countries. But for now, our main concern should be prevention and early awareness. Being aware of the early stages of cancers makes it easier to overcome the disease.
