  • Essay / Interaction between Miss Z and Registered Nurse Ms. M

In this article I will write about my observation of Miss Z who was a 28 year old patient at S Hospital where I did my Lifespan Clinical Internship 1. I will also write about Mrs. M. who is a registered nurse at the high-risk pregnancy unit at S. Hospital where Miss Z. was a patient. Specifically, I will describe how the non-stress test was performed by Nurse Z. During this test, the nurse repositioned Miss Z, attached two sensors to her stomach, and interacted with Miss Z. In the second part of my writing, I will discuss two types of nursing knowledge such as case knowledge and patient knowledge. (Joan Liashenko, Anastasia Fisher 1999) I will describe how Nurse Z incorporated these types of nursing knowledge into her encounter with Miss Z. The high-risk obstetrics unit is located on the fifth floor of Hospital S. It is a state-of-the-art facility that provides care to women who have pregnancy complications and require impatient care. As I enter Miss Z's dimly lit semi-private suit, I smell a mixture of different smells such as blood, urine and food. This is a small medical unit consisting of a multifunctional bed, a cherry-colored chest of drawers, a white leather armchair and a bedside table. The central place in this suit is devoted to a large medical monitor mounted on the wall. Miss Z lay on her back in pain and seemed very sad. She is wearing a yellow bathing dress. His long black ear is scattered on the pillow. His skin is slightly pale. His eyes are swollen and his legs are swollen. Her abdomen is enlarged, consistent with her 24-week pregnancy. His posture is relaxed and somewhat lazy. She doesn't smile at us and her face shows an indifferent expression. On the right side of her there is a b...... in the middle of paper...... this type of knowledge, the nurse understood that her patient lacked social support and was probably depressed. She encouraged Miss Z to have a positive attitude towards her life and her current illness. The patient's knowledge allowed me to understand that the client is going through a difficult period in her life. She definitely needs a social worker and support group to get through this difficult time. In the future, I would like to observe more closely how this patient responds to the help of a social worker. Overall, I believe Miss Z was happy with her nurse. The nurse was able to use two nursing knowledge such as case knowledge and patient knowledge. Additionally, the nurse used social knowledge as a transition between the case and the patient. In the future, I would like to observe how the nurse processes the client's personal biography as part of their knowledge of the person..
