    In Animal Farm and Ender's Game, the characters' lack of empathy is seen through the relationship between the selfish authorities and their society. The authorities in both novels are ignorant and self-centered because they care little for the feelings or needs of their citizens. In Ender's Game, the International Fleet disrespects Ender's life and relationships as they force Ender to leave his home on Earth without hesitation. Ender is taken to an unusual environment which Card describes by saying: "The fear remained throughout dinner because no one was sitting next to him in the dining hall. The other boys talked about everything: the big bulletin board on a wall, food, older children. Ender could only watch in isolation” (Card 32). This use of imagery by Card clearly shows how isolated Ender is from his family and loved ones. The imagery of the isolation and fear of older people shows how the fleet puts Ender in a situation where his social life and emotional state of mind are ignored. Since Ender is isolated and given little empathy, the establishment of a strong, collaborative society is compromised. Additionally, the limited empathy towards a society in Ender's Game can be seen at the end of the novel, when Ender realizes what he has done to the alien species because of the International Fleet.
