    Storytelling is an art found in literature of all types. There are only a few renowned books with exceptional storytelling, allowing them to be studied generation after generation. Homer's Odyssey and Don Quixote by Miguel De Cervantes are two of the rare books that incorporate this exceptional art. To help tell the story of the two novels, Homer and Cervantes take the main characters of their work on a journey. Throughout their travels, the reader learns a lot about the essence of the characters through their encounters. The journeys experienced by the characters demonstrate the art of storytelling of their respective authors. Wizards, women, and objectives are some of the problems the characters must battle throughout their journey. Authors deliberately send their characters on a trip in order to assign them an assistant. From the beginning to the end of the Odyssey, Homer makes us believe that the goddess Athena is an exclusive and special assistant to Odysseus. Homer shows Athena's assistance towards Odysseus, whether by disguising him or consulting other gods on his behalf, all of her actions are for his ultimate benefit. For example, in book six, Athena disguises Odysseus by making him appear more handsome so that Nausicaa will be attracted to him. As a result, Odysseus receives an invitation to the palace, which ultimately helps him return home. By introducing Athena's authority, Homer makes it seem like Odysseus already has an advantage over anyone who gets in his way. Athena gives Odysseus the added ability to succeed in difficult situations, which helps Odysseus become the hero he is. Both Homer and Cervantes had to send their respective characters on a journey in order to demonstrate whether or not their characters would achieve their goals. If Odysseus and Don Quixote had not been sent on a journey, they would not have encountered these concerns, which were an important part of the narrative. The parallel art of storytelling found in both The Odyssey and Don Quixote is much more appreciated when the works are studied. Homer and Cervantes created two remarkable novels that are studied in schools across the country.
