  • Essay / Biography of Jules Verne - 1081

IntroductionJules Gabriel Verne (1828 - 1905) was a novelist, poet and playwright, recognized as one of the pioneers of the science fiction genre. As someone who was born, raised and lived most of his life in France, it is no surprise that his first language is French. As a science fiction fan myself, I thought one of the first writers to take the genre seriously would be the perfect subject for this essay. So without further ado, let's discover his life.LifeJules Verne was born on February 8, 1828 to Pierre Verne and Sophie Verne, in Nates, France. His parents were closely linked to the slave trade, which Jules later came to despise. In a year, he will have a brother, Paul, and later three sisters, Anna, Mathilde and Marie. Jules started school in 1834 and, throughout his educational career, demonstrated a mastery of singing, Greek, Latin and geography as well as an innate sense of curiosity about the world around him. In accordance with his father's wishes, he moved to Paris where he studied law from 1847 to 1849. After obtaining his law degree, he began writing short stories and met the author Jacques Arago. At this time, he also began writing poetry and wrote more than 50 poems, including several directed towards Herminie Arnault-Grossetière, a lover he had at the time.
