Java is a widely used computer programming language created by Sun Microsystems. It was originally called OAK and was designed for small portable devices, but Oak proved unsuccessful and Sun decided to change the name in 1995 with the new and improved name Java. In doing so, they also took it upon themselves to modify the language to take advantage of the World Wide Web. Although Java is an object-oriented language similar to C++, it is a simpler version eliminating language features that can cause common errors when programming. Java files are compiled into a format called byte code (these files have a .class extension), which can then be executed by an interpreter. Compiled code can run on most computers using the interpreter and runtime environments; these are known as Java virtual machines. A program that shares similarities with this high-level programming language is C++, it is also a popular and well-known language. Created at Bell Labs in 1983, it is much older than Java, but C++ provides efficient performance and is used in application software, system software, entertainment software (especially video games), and applications customer. This program was developed by Bjarne Stroustrup. The name C++ was originally C, but was renamed as a play on words to imply the increment operator. This program has influenced a plethora of other programming languages; these include Java, C# and newer versions of C.C++ have a strong philosophy that refers to its development as well as the evolution of the program, it has been governed by a set of rules that its expansion must follow . The very first rule is that the program should be guided by real problems and its functionality...... middle of paper ......ks on multiple platforms and provides the opportunity to develop the entire your program on a desktop computer. The last and most important thing is that unlike C++, when you write applications in Java, they can run anywhere in a different environment. Even though they are similar, there is just more that sets them apart. Works Cited “Java”. What is? Webopedia. Np, and Web. May 13, 2014. .“Java (programming language). » Wikipedia.
