  • Essay / A Look at Shark Attacks - 715

Shark AttacksAlthough many people are afraid of sharks, they have much more to fear from us than we do from them. Every year, more and more people die from dog attacks than shark attacks, and yet humans have a natural fear of sharks. This leads to any shark attack being disproportionate and causes a deep human fear of sharks. My three main topics are the motivations for a shark to bite a human, which is where most shark attacks occur, and ways to avoid a shark's attention. The motivations for a shark to bite a human can include several reasons. A shark can mistake a human for one of its largest prey. Once a shark bites a human, it realizes it made a mistake and lets it go. Other reasons may be that a human is in the shark's territory and the shark feels threatened, so it tries to protect itself by attacking anything that enters its territory. Repeated attacks on humans are rare. What I mean by this is, if a shark attacks someone, use a quick or immediate response. Hit a shark in the nose with an object around you or you can use your fist. Sharks also have sensitive eyes and gills. This is important because if someone is not being attacked but there is a shark nearby, do not panic and chase it. This will only make that person more vulnerable to prey. They should just calmly return to shore. Sharks respect size and power. When you want to vacation in Florida, consider the risks you are taking by entering the ocean. Florida, Hawaii and California are the three areas most frequently affected by shark attacks. What I mean by that is there were 26 attacks in Florida, 10 attacks in Hawaii, and 5 attacks in California. Unprovoked shark attacks on humans in the United States in 2012 include: South Carolina, North Carolina,...... middle of paper ......t, people don't like them but in actually, they are interesting creatures. Sharks have body features and structures. Sharks are unlikely to deliberately attack humans, but they do eat other mammals. People shouldn't be afraid of sharks because of their appearance or the reputation they have for attacking people, they have reasons for what they do. They are harmless and completely unique creatures. Works CitedFrom Maddalena, Alessandro. “Sharks: dangerous or endangered? » World & Me 19.1 (204): 148. Reference center for points of view. and Web.
