The crack and cocaine epidemic in the United States shaped the foundation of America's war on drugs. In the early 1980s, the majority of cocaine began to be shipped to the United States, arriving in Miami via the Bahamas and the Dominican Republic (UDOJ). The foreign origin of the drug made it easier for the trafficker to return to the United States with the drug and also its receipt. “Soon there was a huge quantity of cocaine powder in these islands, which caused the price to drop by up to 80 percent (UDJ).” Thus making it more assessable for shipping to America. Cocaine is known to be a very addictive drug. Produced from the leaves of a coca plant, it led to the widespread manufacture of the drug. The process of creating cocaine is a long procedure but it has five key points. The leaves of the coca plant are stripped in order to access the essence of the natural properties, shortly after the leaf scarps are dried. The dried leaf scarps are then synthesized to create a paste which will be dissolved to condense and multiply the quantity of medicine. After this process, two very important chemical combinations are added, sulfuric acid and potassium permanganate. The product is then dried and becomes white. Thus, cocaine is created and sold on the streets of our country. Cocaine is known as "pure" and the process of manufacturing cocaine takes a long time, making this form of the drug expensive. Crack is the most powerful form of cocaine. Crack produces a very intense high that is often associated with repeated use of the drug and intense energy, hyperactivity, aggression and paranoia. Crack is made by converting cocaine hydrochloride into a solid form. This is done in the middle of paper...... the flooding has caused tensions between the federal government and the minorities in these areas, probably the black community. The black community believed they were targeted because of the drug's negative effects on the country. African-Americans specifically called out the central intelligence agency. Crack began to be used in large quantities in Los Angeles in 1984. The drug had been distributed and exploded at the same time. The Dark Alliance article talks about how the CIA protected Blandon and Meneses who sold over a ton of cocaine to Ricky Ross who converted the same cocaine into crack and sold it in urban neighborhoods, black communities in Los Angeles that crippled the black community in 1980s Los Angeles.
