SHOULD ANIMALS BE USED FOR RESEARCHAnimal testing in scientific and commercial research has a long and controversial history. Some industries, for example, such as cosmetics manufacturers and pharmaceutical research companies, treat animals to test their new products. Animals like rabbits, rats, monkeys and many others are experimented on in the research tests. Animals are not only for product testing, but they are also necessary for biology students to study bodily functions, body parts, and perform surgical procedures for learning and research purposes. Animals are now protected by law; Known as the Animal Welfare Act of 1966, this law regulates the treatment and protection of animals. “We recently received the 2012 statistics on animals used in research under the Animal Welfare Act. Overall, the number of animals used in research has decreased by 16% since 2010, from more than 180,000, from more than 1.1 million (2010) to just over 950,000 (2012) . Animal testing has encouraged many advancements in solutions and ensures that products are safe and secure before treating humans. This development also has many advantages but also has a negative side. Many people consider these practices on animals to be a cruel and indecent act. Animals should be used for research because during the research procedure the animals suffer very little pain and suffering. Animal research can be useful because we are genetically identical and allows us to cure many diseases (“American and medical science”). Science, medicine and animals invariably go hand in hand. New drugs and medicines cure cancer and diseases tested on rats and mice. Due to the common factor genetically identical to humans, mice and other laboratory animals have actively participated in the development of organ transplants. People in today's society want the benefits that are derived and invented from animal testing, regardless of how they also want the animals to be treated well and suffer minimal pain and distress. Progression has its own pros and cons. The quality of a healthier life comes from the importance we place on the people and creatures of life. It makes no sense to sacrifice the health and well-being of future generations by not using animals for experiments and finding a cure for diseases. We can achieve this by humanely handling and treating animals through technological and medical advances..
