The career I chose to research is that of a pediatrician. I chose this because I love working with children and would like to help them improve. This career began in Europe. There was a gradual move toward separate institutions for sick children, so that they were not exposed to adults. In the Western world, the first pediatric hospital opened in France in June 1802. The English-speaking world waited until 1852 to open the first pediatric hospital. There are around 30,890 people working in this career. The state with the highest level of employment in this occupation is California. They have approximately 4,720. The profession of pediatrician involves many tasks. General duties include diagnosing, treating and helping to prevent injuries and illnesses to children. Some more specific tasks involve tracking growth and development. She records the child's height and weight and checks various things at each check-up. They also guide parents on how to help prevent disease by practicing good hygiene, vaccinations and good nutrition. A pediatrician's hours of operation may vary depending on the needs of the hospital or clinic where they work. Typically, they work between 50 and 60 hours per week. Pediatricians are among the highest paid doctors. The average income of a pediatrician is approximately $177,080. Hourly pay could be around $85.14 depending on where you are and your experience. In this field you must have specific qualifications. You must have good communication skills. You must be able to speak with children as well as adults. It also involves listening to what they both have to say. You must be able to speak at a child's level and at an adult's level. Many children are afraid of going to the doctor, so you need to be patient and calm with them. Pediatricia...... middle of paper ......rations and injuries to bones. Pediatric cardiologists analyze and treat heart problems. Nephrologists treat and study kidney problems. Oncologists treat tumors, often associated with cancer. There are also pediatric psychologists who help patients with all the emotions related to the child's illness. Neonatal medicine treats illnesses related to newborns. Perinatal medicine treats problems affecting unborn babies during the second half of the mother's pregnancy, during delivery, and for a few weeks after delivery. After studying and doing all this research about being a pediatrician, I could see myself being one. Besides the fact that they have to go to school for 11 years, they are paid very well and work daily with the children. To me it seems like the best job in the world, helping a child get better, that would be the best feeling.
