According to the San Diego Union Tribune, an estimated 10 million fake IDs are confiscated each year. During last year's spring break in Florida, 10,000 fake IDs were confiscated using a handheld ID verification device made by Colorado-based company Logix. Different types of people use fake IDs for different reasons. Most people who use fake IDs are just teenagers who want to buy alcohol. 18-, 19-, and 20-year-olds typically use fake IDs to drink at bars, while high schoolers with fake IDs simply go to grocery stores to find beer. Possessing or selling fake IDs has different consequences. Underage drinkers who frequent bars and are arrested with fake IDs typically receive a ticket for underage drinking and for carrying a fake or altered ID..
