The story Give a Boy a Gun is about a group of four kids who are bullied throughout school because they are weird, strange and even because they are new. In the group, there are two individuals who have been tormented to the breaking point. Brendan and Gary, who have been best friends since they met in middle school, are done with that life; they could not bear the daily torture. As the story progresses, the bullying worsens to the point where these two buy weapons and learn how to create and detonate bombs. At this point, they feel like revenge and killing their tormentors is the only way to escape this life. The main part of the story takes place at the Middletown high school dance, where all of their bullies happen to be. As the dancing continues, Brendan and Gary enter the gym in fully armed trench coats. They tie up the students and some teachers and drop them off in the gymnasium. Inside, the police arrive, but the gym doors have been designed to explode if opened. As they try to negotiate with them, Brendan leaves and shoots a teacher in the arm....
