  • Essay / Correct grammar is important in today's workplaces

In today's workplaces, correct grammar is very important. How does texting and using modern technology to communicate with each other affect our grammar? I think texting and instant messaging have ruined our communication skills. According to the articles written by Susan Adams and Kyle Weins, they believe that younger generations are struggling to learn the skills needed to survive in the modern workplace. There are many skills needed in the workplace, including communication, editing, listening and writing. I am heading towards the field of science for my future career. Many scientific jobs require speaking in front of large groups or one-on-one. Whatever the topic, you must be able to speak clearly and understandably. As an environmental science and protection technician, I would need these skills. I have many goals I want to achieve, but I wish I could edit better and write better. My skills today are not the best, but I hope that in the future these skills will be better so that I can succeed in my career. The way we use grammar has changed over the years. Today we shorten our words because of social media like texting. Good grammar is one of the most important skills to have and it can show how intelligent we are. It can also show how organized we are and how well we can master tasks. When we communicate with someone and use poor grammar, we send signals that you don't care (Adams). Bad grammar can also affect your credibility. You lose trust and credibility when we use bad grammar. Therefore, if you lose your credibility, you will not be able to perform your tasks properly. Even simple tasks can be affected by poor grammar. Using good grammar will help you pay attention to details (Weins). Grammar is the way you speak and...... middle of paper...... an essential tool in a career. If we can't talk to people, we'll never get a job. The most important time to communicate is during an interview. This is the first time you can be judged on your ability to talk to someone. The younger generation will suffer in the workplace if we do not develop these skills and ensure they are confident in our work. We need to be confident in our abilities to speak and listen to people so that we can manage our tasks. Works Cited Adams, Susan. “Why Grammar Matters at Work.” Forbes. July 20, 2012: b. page.
